Right To Shop: The Next Big Thing In Health Care

Sovereign Solutions Editor’s Note:

The next big thing is SHOPPING?

I have nothing but respect for the featured article and the author. In fact, the piece is good and deserves reading by many more people. However, it does deserve thought, this idea that something so basic requires a reboot, a reawakening to something quite important.

A reawakening to what?

A reawakening to the power of PRICE DISCOVERY in markets.

Without price discovery, and its necessary end product and factor [factors of production and service delivery] customer shopping and discernment and choice in regards to quality and price, we can expect nothing less than the out of control healthcare markets and their fake insurance plans!

Without prices and concurrent customer shopping you can expect BIG, FAT RUBE GOLDBERG SYSTEMS leaching off from you. And, as with now, instead of price discovery, you instead get price propaganda or what amounts to hieroglyphics to you and me!

Such is the case right now generally–we cannot make out prices at best or are absolutely misled at worst.

However, with more people like you knowing the power of shopping and demanding it, while disregarding the fake insurance scam, we may yet achieve rational, high quality and low cost healthcare markets.

Why should the exact same treatment for pneumonia cost $5,000 in one building and $124,000 in another? Or the exact same infusion drug for a chronically ill patient that requires them every six weeks cost $14,000 per shot in one setting, but $28,000 down the street? Why should patients have to pay so much more, simply based on where they park their cars? The answer is simple: they shouldn’t.

But the black box of pricing leaves patients in the dark. As a result, the financial futures of too many American families are in jeopardy as their paychecks fail to keep up with skyrocketing health care costs.

The real shame is that Americans would shop for better prices if they could – comparison shopping is part of the American way of life.
