Healthy Food: The Next Healthcare Frontier?
Sovereign Solutions Editor’s Note:
This is an excellent, informative, and even hopeful piece. I highly suggest reading it.
There is a bit of a disclaimer, however, in regards to this linked piece on healthy food becoming more intertwined with “healthcare.”
We at Sovereign Liberty Solutions have certain reservations concerning mention of healthcare insurance titans, for example, going into the food pricing markets.
It is sensible for people individually to adopt better eating habits. The existing healthcare market, particularly the direct medical service professionals, can encourage. However, the healthcare market, such as it is with Big Hospitals, Big Government, and Big Insurance etc, CANNOT AND WILL NOT work to all of our advantage if they even begin to price food.
Hear me out.
Such as it is, the healthcare market produces the incredibly convoluted and inflationary medical care prices. Shouldn’t we each be hesitant to allow such an intentionally byzantine pricing system to lay hold upon our food and the food industry!
Do we need insurance for FOOD? Think about that one! What will THAT do to price? Coordination of benefits and various forms and denials and appeals and regulations extra for every food purchase?
The take away is clear though, despite some pitfalls or dangerous areas to consider. There are more and more businesses and other actors addressing the very real link and need for healthy food as well as healthy living!
This, overall, is a positive development, as it especially lends way towards you and me being more empowered to be good stewards over our own health. It also demonstrates a growing demand for things that truly do deliver positive healthcare results with minimal costs.
We were wondering how long it would take for the business community to see that healthy food was the best low-hanging fruit to everyone’s physical AND financial health! This can truly be a WIN/WIN!
FEATURED CONTENT
(…) Of the two biggest keys to better health — better food and more movement — improving food holds the biggest opportunity for consumers to take charge of their health, for new and existing companies to make meaningful revenue, and for technology to have a significant impact.
Consider this: The U.S. spending on healthcare healthcare-related costs is $2.9 trillion annually. Consumer spending on food (in-home and out of home combined) is a staggering $1.4 trillion annually. Food, in fact, is the largest expenditure outside of healthcare that significantly impacts our overall health. It makes sense that if we want to move the needle on population health, we should focus on food and consider leveraging food in the healthcare space on a more formal basis.
